School Supply Impact Drive Report

The Kini’ai Food Care Package Project

The Kini’ai Food Care Package Project is our newest keiki initiative project.  We created this project to target children who need a little care package to help them and their families during winter break intersession.  In Hawaii it’s not uncommon for children to skip breakfast and lunch meals when they’re on school intercession breaks.  In collaboration with The Food Basket Inc., and existing community partners, Kako’o I Na Keiki addresses the need of children potentially skipping meals throughout the day during winter break. This initiative provides a healthy and well-balanced bag of food we call Care Packages for keiki on free and/or reduced lunch programs in Elementary Schools across the island.Visit the link below to see our Impact Report Results for Kini’ai Food Care Package Project

Each year a School Survey is distributed to each DOE Public Elementary School for feedback on their needs in the academic community.  Slippers is listed as a vital and is considered as a top need in our school system.  Children experience one of the following scenarios: a slipper breaks during the school day, comes to school barefoot or wearing inadequate footwear.  The Kako’o I Na Keiki Slipper Community Initiative addresses this need by donating slippers to Elementary schools throughout Hawaii Island.  We hold annual fundraising drives, encourage businesses and/or organizations to conduct internal slipper campaigns, seek community partners and sponsors and inspire participation from the community. Our goal is to target and touch as many children as possible in our Elementary Schools.
