Mission Statement
The Big Island Substance Abuse Council strives to enhance the quality of care and innovative services in the areas of Substance Abuse Education, Intervention and Treatment. We are dedicated to the healing of the mind, body and spirit of individuals, families and others who suffer as a result of alcohol and other substance use, abuse and addiction.
Island Wide Adolescent and Community-Based Outpatient Treatment Program Goal
Provide assessment, intensive out-patient treatment, drug & alcohol screening, case management, individual and family counseling, and follow-up activities via community-based treatment.
A 15-year old entered treatment to address to address his substance use. He struggled initially and continued to engage in high risk behaviors which resulted in an arrest on campus, and a subsequent arrest for vandalism and property damage and was placed on probation. During treatment his high risk behaviors decreased, his grades and attendance in school improved and he became actively involved basketball and volley ball. He successfully completed all treatment plan goals and graduated high school with 3.2 GPA. He continues an alcohol and drug-free lifestyle with no high-risk behaviors and no new arrests.
