Emergency Food & Social Service Program for North Hawaii: There are countless occasions the Salvation Army gets to meet those who are in need. There is this grandmother we were serving through our food program. One day in October the grandmother came to us for some assistance for her granddaughter age 25 raising a two year old daughter-who has cancer. The granddaughter had surgery and was on the road to recovery when they found out the cancer has returned and her medical assistance for treatment was denied and her food stamps were cut off. We provided food on weekly basis for 4 months until the granddaughter got all her medical and government funding all straighten out. The grandmother would come by every week just to talk and she was so grateful being a part of the solution during her granddaughter’s unfortunate time.
