Healing Together: Unpacking Mental Health Stigma with Compassion & Awareness
Workshop Presenters: Dr. Stephanie Campbell & Dr. Alexandria King
Learn about the gravity, persistence, origins, and outcomes of mental health stigma, including the role of white supremacy in the perpetuation of bias. This interactive workshop delves into the influences of identities/intersectionality on how mental health is perceived. Through critical dialogues and group discussion, let’s personally reflect and engage with others’ stories.

Join us for this dynamic session to gain insights, challenge biases, and take actionable steps toward creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for mental health.

Dr. Stephanie Campbell is a licensed psychologist in Hawai‘i and Nationally Certified School Psychologist. She participates in systems-level interventions for statewide mental health crisis response and develops free training opportunities for community members and providers. Her research centers on minoritized identities and their influence on mental health, focusing on trauma, race, body image, and weight stigma in children and adolescents—particularly in relation to the implications of culture, socioeconomic status, power/privilege, and gendered societal expectations.

Dr. Alexandria King is the clinical lead at East Hawaiʻi Family Guidance Center, overseeing intensive mental health services for children and families through the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division. She is dedicated to improving care systems by training and supervising current and future providers, including supervision to both masters- and doctoral-level students. She firmly believes that by enhancing the support systems for therapists, the quality of care provided to clients is ultimately elevated.

This event is the ninth in the "Kakou: Let's Work It Out!" workshop series, co-hosted by the County of Hawai'i Mayor's Office, County of Hawai'i Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, Ku'ikahi Mediation Center, Rotary Club of Hilo, Rotary Club of Hilo Bay, Rotary Club of South Hilo, Rotary Club of Volcano, and UH-Hilo International Student Services.
