Hawaiian Telcom and our employees set a new record for our annual United Way fundraising campaign in 2023, our 140 anniversary year, raising more than $210,000 for Kaua‘i United Way, Aloha United Way on O‘ahu, Maui United Way and Hawai‘i Island United Way. Of the total, nearly $40,000 was designated for Maui relief efforts.

First Hawaiian Bank presented Hawai’i Island United Way with a check for $35,000 as part of its 2023 campaign.
These funds will allow Hawai’i Island United Way and its partner nonprofits to respond to the increased needs and provide additional services to support the most vulnerable in the county.
HILO, Apr. 5, 2023 – In 2022, Hawaiian Electric employees and retirees on Hawaii Island, with support from IBEW Local 1260, together raised $63,464.45 during the company’s workplace campaign to benefit Hawaii Island United Way. The nonprofit will disburse funds through its partner agencies to support and continue services for the underserved and vulnerable individuals, families and communities in need.
Non-profit organizations in the community have been the pillars of a foundation in which the residents of Hawai’i Island sometimes depend on. While these non-profit organizations of the island have their direct sources of funds, they sometimes need additional or collaborative support- and this is where Hawai’i Island United Way comes in.

The Luck of the Irish Golf Tournament is back on March 12 and 13 for its 20th year as a fundraiser for the Hawai’i Island United Way.
The event brings local companies, organizations and donors together on the golf course to raise funds to build a better future helping Big Island communities to thrive.
KAPA-FM/Hilo, HI Tommy "Kahikina" Ching set a new world record for continuous radio broadcast by remaining on the air for 261 consecutive hours. Kahikina broadcast 22 hours per day, every day from Monday August 1 through noon on Friday August 12. Along with this record setting accomplishment, Kahikina raised more than $50,000 for Hawaii Island United Way.
On Wednesday, Nov. 17, county workers posted 20 signs throughout Kailua-Kona promoting the “Change of Heart” campaign. The program, supported by the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce and the Kailua Village Business Improvement District, along with a myriad of Kona-based human-service-focused nonprofits, aims to direct “spare change” to Hawaiʻi Island United Way (HIUW) rather than individual panhandlers.
